Hemorrhoids and Fiber
Most western diets do not contain a lot of fiber based foods and as a result a lot of people suffer from constipation. A lot of foods in the western diet contain starch, sugar and animal protein.
Asian diets contain a lot more fruits and vegetables but may also contain monosodium glutamate (MSG) which is not always a good choice because people can have allergic reactions to this additive.
One of the better types of diets for increasing the amount of fiber you eat is the Mediterranean diet which includes a lot of pasta, rice, vegetables and meat.
Foods with more fiber helps to relieve hemorrhoid symptoms because they help regulate one’s bowl movements. The American Academy of Family Physicians recommends eat at least nine servings of fibrous foods a day.
A good choice of food would be to add more whole grains in the form of breads and brown rice as well as fruits. Try adding apples, pineapples, pears, papaya, mangoes, grapes and berries to your daily diet. Adding lots of leafy green vegetables such as lettuce, cabbage, spinach and broccoli is also a good idea. The more fibrous fruits and vegetables you can add to your diet the better to help relieve your hemorrhoid symptoms.
Not only will you get plenty of fiber from eating fruits and vegetables to help relieve your constipation but these foods also contain bioflavonoids which can help strengthen the blood vessels in the anal region. Bioflavonoids are largely found in citrus fruits like oranges, limes and lemons.
Something else you can do to help relieve your hemorrhoid symptoms is drinking plenty of fresh water a day. Try to get the recommended eight glasses a day.
